## Writing About Mental Health

**Writing About Mental Health**

*This information was provided by CAMH.*

The way journalists write about mental illness and addictions can have a significant influence on public perception, so it is important to be informed. Here are some helpful resources for journalists:

- [Mindset: Reporting on Mental Health](https://www.mindset-mediaguide.ca/)
- [Tips for writing about mental illness including addiction](https://www.camh.ca/en/driving-change/about-camh/for-reporters/tips-for-writing-about-mental-health-and-addiction)
- [Opioids and addiction](https://www.camh.ca/-/media/files/5217-opdsaddic_primer-pdf.pdf): a primer for journalists (PDF): This primer provides Ontario journalists with important facts regarding opioid use and addiction, and guidelines for reporting on these topics in ways that encourage understanding and promote healthier people and communities.
